VLSA Board Meeting Minutes: October 26, 2019

Call to order

Norm Gaumont called to order the board meeting of the Vaseux Lake Stewardship Association at 14:00 on October 26, 2019 at 216 Sundial Rd at Vaseux Lake.

Roll call

Norm Gaumont conducted a roll call of the Board members. The following persons were present: Jim D’Andrea, Rosalind Gardner, Barry Underwood, Myles Radchenko, Phyllis Radchenko and Diane Worth.

2. Norm Gaumont discussed the work to create the wetland for the final cleansing of effluents from the Okanagan Falls Treatment Plant. If the work does not start by the end of October, Norm Gaumont will call Liisa Bloomfield from the RDOS to see what is going on.
3. Norm Gaumont discussed the ongoing process to get the rototiller in Vaseux Lake.  The Province is once again allowing the rototiller in water more than 2 meters deep.  The Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB) is moving ahead with a pilot project for our lake, expected to move ahead in November 2020.  If the milfoil is bad next summer, a harvester will used to cut the milfoil back.
4. Barry Underwood will collect outstanding dues on the north east side of  Vaseux Lake.
5. Jim D’Andrea will follow up on how to get the Association to have charitable organization designation.
6. New Business

a)   The OBWB has indicated we can apply for a grant for the siltation study to see how we can mitigate the amount of silt entering the north end of the lake. The application process for the grant should come out at the end of November.  Jim D’Andrea and Norm Gaumont will work on the application.

b)   Phyllis Radchenko will put together an application for a yearly sum of $2000.00 to be shared between Regional District areas C and D. The application will be sent to Ron Obirek and Rick Knodel, the Areas’ respective representatives. The funds will be used for annual water testing during the summer months, and, to help keep the 3 public access clean of brush, dead wood and garbage. 

• Myles Radchenko will contact Liisa Bloomfield to get the last 2 years’ worth of reports related to effluent levels the Okanagan Falls treatment Plant has been releasing into Vaseux Lake.  Myles will also request that that the VLSA receive copies of all such reports in the future.
• Barry Underwood will see if we can get computer access to our Vaseux Lake bank account so e-transfers can be made for the yearly dues.  
• Rosalind Gardner will update the web site with the latest information and determine which members are paying more than once a year on Paypal. Norm Gaumont will provide any information required for the web site.  Ros will transfer the site’s domain registration and hosting service payments to Barry Underwood’s Visa credit card.
• Norm Gaumont and Myles Radchenko will explore working with other neighboring associations on common environmental concerns.
