The December 7th meeting with Tom Siddon and Terry Schafer on the Vaseux Lake Home Owners Association’s concerns was a success.
It allowed us to highlight our concern relating to the final phase of polishing any remaining effluents through a parcel of land from the Okanagan Treatment plant.
Lisa Bloomfield, the engineering supervisor at RDOS, provided a presentation on the Okanagan Falls treatment plant and how it is functioning.
The one concern was that it would take until 2018 to get the final polishing of effluents through the parcel of land completed and they only have approximately 1/3 of the funding required.
We should all be calling our MLA and expressing our concern that all the funding be provided and this be completed ASAP.
I find it unacceptable that this was supposed to have been done when the plant was initially completed and 4 years later we are still waiting.
James Littley from the Okanagan Basin Water Board provided an update on the permits for the rototiller on our lake. They are still waiting for the Provincial Ministry permit and the earliest we will see the rototiller will be November 2017.
James sent me an email with the Okanagan water quality information that you may be interested in, I have attached it below.
The RDOS on our behalf will be working on preparing a submission for a two phase study, one on the water quality of Vaseux Lake and the second on the siltation that is taking place at the mouth of the lake. These two studies will provide a foundation for next steps to ensure this lake stays healthy over time.
I will be forwarding a request to Linda Larson to meet with our group to discuss our concerns and the lack of funding for the treatment plant and also ask why it is taking so long to get provincial permits for the rototiller. I will like to work on creating a formal association for the lake over the winter months and would welcome some assistance with this. if you are interested please let me know. We also want to ensure that everyone has a chance to provide input on the parameters of the study so I will continue to send updates and request feedback on the study as well as the formation of the home owners association.
Richard Cannings, our Federal MP would like to meet with as many Vaseux lake home owners as possible on the 17th December at 10:00AM at my residence 216 Sundial Rd at the south end of Vaseux lake. Please send me an email if you intend to be present.
Finally I would like to thank everyone for their support in raising our collective concerns and helping move these issues forward.
