The Vaseux Lake Stewardship Association was created by Vaseux Lake homeowners and stakeholders on July 13th, 2017 to help preserve and protect this special ecosystem through liaison with government and other agencies with the means to deal with key issues that affect the lake.
Over the past year, Vaseux Lake stakeholders have been working with various government agencies to remove milfoil using a rototiller; complete a water quality study; research the cause of siltation at the north end of Vaseux Lake; and fully treat effluents emanating from the Okanagan Falls Irrigation Falls Sewage Treatment Plant through a parcel of land purchased for
that purpose. The Association is looking forward to working with the various agencies to move these projects forward.
Of particular concern, is the high water level on Vaseux Lake which has now been going on for over 2 1⁄2 months requiring lakeside property owners to continue sandbagging to stop property erosion. This continues to take place even though Okanagan Lake has been lowered to the July 2016 level when Vaseux Lake was 30 cm lower. High water in the Okanagan River is also causing flooding for some homeowners along the river south of Vaseux Lake.
We look forward to receiving an explanation from The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources on the rationale for the present high water levels.
